Zeeland does not run its own source. The Zeeland Board of Public Works purchases its water wholesale from the City of Holland, which draws and filters it from Lake Michigan. Practically, that means a Zeeland tap on city service is running the same treated lake water as a Holland tap, delivered through Zeeland's own distribution system. Being on lake water also means Zeeland shares its seasonal quirk: through extended warm stretches on Lake Michigan, the water can take on an earthy taste and smell from the lake's own biology, and it stays safe to drink throughout.
